Today in class we continued watching the video. The people who were receiving the surgery on their eyes by the famous doctor from Nepal who came to North Korea to help them were selected by the government. It shows the Doctor giving them the surgery. People can say that the Northern Korean government gives everything free. Thats not really true because they don't have lots of medications, some of them can't find food or homes. More than 40% of the North Korean children remain unnourished. Their growth is stunted. The narrator and the doctor visit the home of a blind woman.
In North Korea there are people that are starving; there are people that don't have homes and people still worship and love this Great Leader. The Great Leader uses Concentration Camps to strike fear into the people of North Korea. There are camps that are the size of small cities and than their are larger ones.
One of the camps name is 22.
The guards of the camps were instructed to not treat the people in the caps as human beings. People would be shot for just looking for a mouse to eat. The littlest things, the people of the camps would be shot over.
People didn't know how or why they ended up there. Usually if people went in they never came out alive. The camps were supposed to keep them loyal to the leader. Many people were so desperate they tried t escape anyway. There is one guy who risks his life to try to bring the people to freedom by telling them which parts to look out for on there way to freedom. You can never tell when you are going to be arrested by the Chinese police or shot at the boarder. The thousands who have fraught out of North Korea to China only a few had made it.
